When: On until 31 December 2020.
Why road trip? With motorhomes available to pick up from Alice Springs, this is your excuse to really see the Red Centre.
On your way… Hike a section of the Larapinta Trail, which runs through the West MacDonnell Ranges; visit the home of artist Albert Namatjira, Hermannsburg; and walk along the red cliff face of Kings Canyon.

Turtle season, Mon Repos
What: It’s one of Australia’s biggest natural blockbusters and this turtle conservation area is one of the best places in Australia to witness loggerhead turtles haul their shells up the beach where they were born to lay their own eggs. Visit in hatchling season and you can help hundreds of baby turtles reach the ocean’s embrace.
Where: Mon Repos, just 15 minutes north of Bundaberg, Queensland.
When: Nesting season November to January; hatching season January to March each year.
Why road trip? You can take the slow way north along the Pacific Way from Brisbane and camp seaside in the charming village of Bargara.
On your way… Stop in Hervey Bay for fresh seafood at the marina and a walk out along the iconic Urangan Pier, and visit local producers – from peanuts, to strawberries and wine – in the food bowl of the South and North Burnett regions.
