Summer Holiday Tips

With so many of us going on holiday over December and January, I thought some Summer Holiday Tips might come in handy.

1. Pack Light.  But not too light.  This year whenever I’ve traveled I’ve either packed too much or too little. Neither are much fun!  The trick is to really consider your holiday, and pack appropriately.  Apart from your new togs and gorgeous new beach dress, be careful not to pack things from your wardrobe that you don’t usually wear.  Chances are you won’t wear them on holiday either so it’s just wasted space.  There are some handy online travel lists.  I really like The Universal Packing List as it asks you all the right questions and makes custom packing recommendations based on your answers.

2. Don’t forget the Sunscreen! Or your hat, or your rashie, or your umbrella! The reason I say, ‘don’t forget’ is that we all know by now the need to protect ourselves from sunburn.  But in our eagerness to get out there and enjoy our holidays, it’s easy to ‘forget’ those important things.  In my family, we’ve recently lost someone at a very young age to melanoma, and even though this has made me more aware than ever of sun protection, last weekend I still spent a fair amount of time outside without proper protection!  The Cancer Council has lots of handy tips and information on their website.

3.  Don’t Plan Too Many Activities.  Or rather, plan to give yourself some downtime!  You deserve it.  I re-read a short blog from ABC Open recently, and I think the contributor perfectly captured why it’s important.

4. We’d love to hear about it.  I love to see pictures or hear stories about our guests’ holidays.  It’s all inspiration.  And I know your fellow travelers love it too.  So if you happen to have a great story, tip, recommendation or picture, feel free to share it with us.
